To the south of the mountain is Mount Kentros, of which Samitos is a natural extension, while to the east rises Mount Idi or Psiloritis. It is generally characterized by low vegetation and a rocky, wild landscape, which is interrupted at its western roots, where the Platys Potamos flows, forming a verdant area on its banks, but also the naturally beautiful Smilian gorge.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the top of Samitos stands a small chapel dedicated to the Ascension of the Lord.
