Simas Bridge or Potamon Bridge

Simas Bridge or Potamon Bridge

It is the highest stone-built bridge in Crete, and certainly one of the most impressive newer monuments of Amari. It owes its name Simas to its architect who designed it at the beginning of the 20th century. Its construction, which had already begun during the years of the Cretan State, was only completed in 1912 after the Union of Crete with Greece, with the aim of creating a carriage road that would connect Amari with Rethymno. The ornate bridge is preserved today in excellent condition and is still in use.
